PRESS RELEASE

Sarasota, FL – March 16 &17, 2017 from 8:30am-4pm

Pines of Sarasota Education and Training Institute Institute will be hosting a two-day Seminar and Workshop presented by Cameron J. Camp, Ph.D. of the Center for Applied Research in Dementia. Dr. Camp is an internationally renowned research scientist, author and trainer.

Dr. Camp has taken the Montessori method traditionally used on young children and retooled it to help people with Alzheimer’s disease regain some of the skills that have fallen prey to their illness. Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® Dementia Programming (MDP) involves an effective non-pharmacological approach to working with older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. MDP is based on the method and philosophy of famed educator Maria Montessori. Dr. Cameron Camp and his colleagues have researched the concept of using the Montessori method as a treatment for dementia for over 20 years. Among its many benefits, MDP has been shown to increase levels of engagement and functioning in persons with dementia.

Director of Education at Pines of Sarasota, JoAnn Westbrook explains, “The workshops’ intended audience is for staff working in assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, adult day centers, or similar settings that serve persons with dementia. But we wanted this release to go out to the media to have the opportunity to report on this innovative method of utilizing Montessori with persons with dementia.”

The media is invited to attend any portion of the workshops. Interviews will be available during the breaks at 9:45 AM – 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM-12:30 PM the first day.

For more information, please contact Lisabeth Begin at 727-243-6965 or JoAnn Westbrook at 941-309-5761.
